Tennis Court Surfaces

Tennis is a game of precision. Every serve and rally depends on a surface that delivers consistent bounce, reliable grip, and predictable speed, whatever the weather and whoever’s playing.

With more than 20 years’ experience, Kangaroo Courts designs, builds and resurfaces tennis court surfaces for schools, clubs, councils and private facilities across Australia. Our qualified in-house team manages the entire process, from design through to handover, tailoring every surface, layout and finish to suit the way the court will be used.

Tennis Courts Built for Every Setting

Every facility comes with its own demands. Kangaroo Courts builds tennis court surfaces across a wide range of settings, tailoring each project to suit the site, surface requirements, and the level of play. Each court is designed around how it will be used and what it needs to deliver.

  • Schools and universities: Durable acrylic tennis courts for PE programs, school sports, and lunchtime recreation, designed for constant daily use and safe for students of all ages.
  • Sporting clubs: Competition-grade surfaces built to ITF standards, with accurate court dimensions, precise line marking, and surface speed suited to the level of play.
  • Local councils and developers: Outdoor tennis courts built for all-weather community use, with options for multi-court layouts, drainage, fencing, and lighting to support regular play year-round.
  • Private courts: Residential tennis courts designed around the property and the players, built to the same standard as any commercial installation.

Need more from a single court? We also design multi-sport configurations with line markings for tennis, basketball, and netball, helping schools and community facilities get more from a single surface.

Custom Tennis Court Design

Every great court starts long before the surface is laid. We look at your site, players, usage needs, and long-term goals first, then plan the layout, dimensions, surfacing, and finishing details around how the court needs to perform.

Design elements we can work through with you include:

  • ITF-compliant dimensions and run-off zones for training and competition use
  • Surface type selection (hard court, cushioned, or hybrid) based on player profile and expected usage
  • Colour selection to contrast the court, manage heat absorption, and meet facility requirements
  • Net post placement, centre strap, drainage, fencing, and lighting layoutsSurface specifications suited to Australian conditions and expected usage levels

You can also use our court visualiser to map out your design before committing, making it easier to present concepts to school boards, councils, grant committees, or club stakeholders.

Our Tennis Court Installation Process

From the first site visit to final handover, our in-house team keeps your tennis court installation smooth with clear planning, practical advice, and no subcontracted surprises. Every stage is managed with the finished court in mind, from the base beneath the surface to the line marking that players depend on.

  1. Site consultation and assessment
We assess layout, drainage, fall, access, and existing surface conditions to understand what your court needs before design begins.
  2. Custom court design
Your design is planned around the site, players, and level of play, including ITF dimensions, run-off zones, colours, line marking, fencing, lighting, and net post placement.
  3. Sub-base and ground preparation
We prepare a stable, well-engineered base to support a level, durable surface that drains correctly and resists cracking and movement over time.
  4. Surface installation
Premium acrylic tennis courts systems from Mapei and Sportspave are applied for reliable surface speed, consistent grip, UV stability, and long-term durability.
  5. Handover and ongoing support
We walk you through the finished court, confirm all inclusions, and provide maintenance guidance, with support available for future inspections, resurfacing, and asset planning.

Tennis Court Surface Options

The right surface shapes how the game plays, how it feels underfoot, and how long it holds up. Kangaroo Courts offers three main systems, each suited to different facilities, player profiles, and usage levels.

Acrylic hard courts
The most popular choice for commercial tennis court construction and resurfacing, acrylic systems from Mapei and Sportspave deliver consistent surface speed, reliable grip, UV resistance, and strong durability for commercial and public facilities. Available in a wide range of colours.

Cushioned acrylic systems
A cushioned layer beneath the acrylic surface helps reduce impact on players’ joints while maintaining the firm, responsive feel expected from a quality tennis court. This is a strong option for coaching venues, training-heavy facilities, older player groups and schools with high daily court use.

Multi-sport surfaces
For shared spaces, we can create a tennis court with additional line marking for basketball, netball and other sports. This is ideal for schools and council recreation areas where the court needs to support tennis while also giving the facility greater flexibility.

Not sure which surface is most suited to your project? Our team can recommend the right system based on your facility, player profile, usage demands, and budget.

Tennis Court Builders FAQs

A site assessment is the best starting point, as slope, drainage, access, available space and surrounding structures can all affect the design. Kangaroo Courts can review the site conditions and explain what needs to be prepared before construction begins.

The cost of a tennis court depends on the site condition, base preparation, drainage requirements, surface system, fencing, lighting, equipment and overall project scale. A detailed quote gives the clearest picture, as two courts of the same size can have very different construction requirements.

Most acrylic tennis court surfaces are low maintenance, but they still need regular cleaning, debris removal and periodic checks to protect grip and surface condition. A simple maintenance plan can help reduce wear, identify small issues early and extend the life of the court.

Tennis court resurfacing cycles depend on usage, weather exposure, maintenance, and the condition of the underlying base. High-use school, club and council courts may need attention sooner than lightly used private courts, so regular inspections are useful for long-term planning.

Tennis court projects can often be planned around school holidays, exam periods, competition seasons or major community events. Discussing timing early helps reduce disruption and gives the project team more flexibility around access, scheduling and handover.

Fencing, lighting, net posts and other court equipment can often be included as part of a broader tennis court upgrade. Planning these elements together helps avoid layout conflicts and ensures the finished court works properly for players, spectators and maintenance access.

After handover, the court should be maintained according to the surface system and level of use. Kangaroo Courts can also support future inspections, maintenance planning, resurfacing and upgrades as the court ages.
